Conversations That Build

Blaise Pascal apparently wrote, “All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.” I note that his English is pretty good there!

I say that many of relationships’ problems stem from the inability of two people to sit calmly and have a proper conversation, a conversation that builds. How rare it seems these days are simple conversations of talking, listening, thinking, responding. In romantic relationships there are other ways to help heal a breach, but even there proper conversation is essential in the long term.

Tell me again, Maximus. Why are we here?
For the glory of the empire, sire.
Ah, yes. Ah, yes, I remember. . . .
Come. Please. Come sit. Let us talk together now, very simply, as men. Well, Maximus, . . . talk!
